A two-day seminar workshop was successfully conducted to strengthen the role of parents in drug abuse prevention and control last March 20-21, 2013 at Buguias, Ben-guet, Mountain Province in cooperation with the local government of the Municipality of Buguias.
Some 38 participants attended the seminar coming from Parents Teachers and Community Association (PTCA) Officers, Buguias Local Government Unit (BLGU) Officials, Buguias Anti-Robbery and Crime (BARC) Chairpersons, Members of the Barangay Peace Keeping Action Teams (BPATS) and Stakeholders.
The participants were welcomed by Hon. Rose Balinang, Barangay Chairwoman, Brgy. Abatan Buguias. She expressed her gratitude to the DDB for the implementation of the said seminar.
Ms. Glorie Lou G. Pasa, Health Education and Promotion Officer II, DDB, lectured on the government efforts to address the drug problem. “What we hope to achieve is a drug resistant and eventually a drug-free Philippines,” Ms. Pasa stated.
The national and regional drug situation in the country was discussed by Ms. Emely C. Fama, Information Officer III, PDEA Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) while Sr. Police Inspector Damian Oslim, Chief of Police, Abatan, Buguias, Benguet lectured on the peace and order as well as the crime situation in Abatan.
Acting Regional Director Atty. Ernesto Lee Marzo, PDEA-CAR, explained the salient features of RA 9165, particularly Sections 11 and 15 pertaining to possession and use of dangerous drugs. He also explained the different acts punishable as well as their corresponding penalties.
The seminar ended with a message from Mayor Melchor Diclas, M.D., and Vice Mayor Ireneo Calwag, Buguias Benguet.
The two-day seminar-workshop is designed for parents to enrich their knowledge and skills on effective parenting.
