More private companies continue supporting the Drug Abuse in the Workplace Program of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) as mandated by RA 9165 to be part of company policies to eliminate the use and abuse of illegal drugs in the workplace.
One such company supporting the program is the Firefly Electric & Lighting Corporation (FELCO), a company established to engage primarily in the marketing and sale of various lighting and electrical products in the Philippines and provides cost-effective and quality solutions to various projects with wide range of lighting products.
The Dangerous Drugs Board conducted a seminar on Drug Abuse Prevention in the Workplace to 32 of its employees January 29, 2015 at 7/F Zen Offices Bldg., 1111 Natividad St., Ermita, Manila.
Ms. Edna A. Villavicencio, DDB Training Specialist – III, discussed the topic, “Drug Abuse in the Workplace”. She lengthily explained the aims and objectives of drug abuse prevention in the workplace, the characteristics of drug abusers and its effect to productivity. Likewise, she tackled the aims and objectives of drug abuse prevention in the workplace and the steps in developing a drug and substance abuse prevention program.
The Salient Provisions of R.A. 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 was explained by Atty. Cesar Posada, DDB Legal Consultant. He focused on the provisions of the law and the corresponding penalties.
Dr. Ma. Corazon C. Dumlao, Chief, Health Division, Health & Nutrition Center, Department of Education discussed the “Medical Aspect of Drug Abuse” and highlighted the detrimental effects of abusing drugs, the stages of drug abuse and how to identify drug abusers.
DDB will continue its mandate in spreading information about the ill effects of drugs especially to the different workplace in the society.
