Over six-hundred thirty seven (637) attendees consisting of directors, supervisors, division chiefs and rank & file employees of the Bureau of Internal Revenue have undergone the Seminar on Drug Abuse Prevention in the Workplace as presented by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).
It was held at Revenue District Office No. 54A, Trece Martirez City, Cavite, 23 and 27 February 2015. This activity is a collaborative effort of the two government agencies as mandated by RA 9165 for company policies to include the development of a drug-free workplace program.
Ms. Teresita C. Pineda, Chief, Preventive Education, Training and Information Division, DDB discussed the topic, “Drug Abuse in the Workplace”. She talked about the objectives of the drug-free workplace program as well as the characteristics of drug abusers and its effects to productivity. Highlighting on the steps involved in developing a drug and substance abuse prevention program.
Meanwhile, medical aspects of drug abuse were discussed by Dr. Ma. Corazon C. Dumlao, Chief, Health Division, Health & Nutrition Center, Department of Education. She also emphasized the detrimental effects of abusing drugs to the mental and physical health of individuals.
Atty. Cesar G. Posada, Legal Consultant, DDB, discussed the Salient Provisions of R.A. 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the corresponding penalties.
The Drug-Free Workplace program intends to help government and private agencies to establish a drug-free workplace which will encourage employees to work hard without the influence of illegal drugs.
