In the recently concluded Orientation Seminar on the Promotion of a Drug-Free Workplace Program held at the BIR Central Office, Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares of the Bureau of Internal Revenue emphasized the morale issues of the people especially “the ones in denial, making things right even if it is wrong.” She even mentioned the need for a moral compass of communication and to be sensitive to the surroundings.
Ms. Celia C. King, Deputy Commissioner for Human Resource Group, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Central Office, welcomed the participants as well as the Officials of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) and Department of Labor and Employment- Occupational Safety and Health Center (DOLE)-OSHC.
Undersecretary Edgar C. Galvante, Permanent Member, DDB, discussed the government efforts in addressing the drug abuse problem together with the five pillars of action of DDB. He even gave an example about the coffee shop in Amsterdam selling latte coffee with methamphetamine as well as the continuous increase in number of drug users in call center groups.
The importance of Drug Dependency Examination and the legal provisions under Department Order 53-03 (Guidelines for The Implementation of a Drug-Free Workplace Policies and Programs for the Private Sector) was explained by Dr. Jeremiah Florante from the DOLE-OSHC. He also mentioned the smuggling of capsules inside the tummy and also stated the different feelings of euphoria when using drugs.
Meanwhile, Atty. Cesar G. Posada, Legal Consultant, DDB, discussed the salient feature of RA 9165 also known as The Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Undersecretary Rommel L. Garcia, Permanent Member, DDB, explained the ill effects of drugs on physical and mental health of individuals.
The Drug-Free Workplace Program was conducted at the BIR Central Office, Diliman, Quezon City held last March 19, 2015 and attended by officers and employees of the Human Resource Group.
