The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) in cooperation with the Municipality of Alaminos, Pangasinan conducted the Advocacy Program for Multi-Sectoral Groups on Drug Abuse Prevention Education to intensify the initiatives against substance abuse.
It was participated by one thousand (1000) college student leaders, barangay officials and government employees in Alaminos, Pangasinan.
Usec. Rommel L. Garcia, Permanent Member, DDB, welcomed the participants. “I hope that you will gain new knowledge and insights from the lectures and use it to influence your schools and communities for the better. I encourage all the students to listen and internalize the lectures so that you can share with your fellow students what you have learned in this seminar,” Usec. Garcia stated.
The Medical Aspects of Drug Abuse was discussed by Asec. Benjamin P. Reyes, Deputy Executive Director for Operations, DDB. He emphasized in his discussion the symptoms of drug abuse, its physical, mental and psychological effects on the person’s health.
Atty. Philip Josef T. Vera Cruz, Chief Legal Division, DDB, talked about the Salient Features of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. In his lecture, he cited the different unlawful acts and their corresponding penalties.
The government efforts to address the drug problem was explained by Ms. Teresita C. Pineda, Chief Preventive Education Training and Information Division, DDB. She focused on the government’s preventive drug education programs.
Hon. Jesus F. Celestre, Representative, 1st District of Pangasinan discussed the current drug situation of Alaminos and expressed his high hopes that the program will encourage the participants to become good citizens and continue to fight against drugs.
This seminar was held at Don Leopoldo Sison Auditorium, Alaminos City, Pangasinan on April 8, 2015.
