Philippine National Police (PNP) officials led by PNP Chief Ricardo C. Marquez paid a courtesy call yesterday to the newly appointed DDB Chairman, Sec. Felipe L. Rojas Jr.
In the meeting also joined in by DDB Board Members Usec. Edgar C. Galvante and Usec. Rommel L. Garcia, heightening of anti-drug operations and strengthening of partnerships with local officials in helping keep communities safe and drug-free were discussed.
PNP’s operationalization of the National Anti-Drug Plan of Action or NADPA which was launched last Sunday during the “Bisekleta Kontra Droga” event spearheaded by the PNP in partnership with the DDB was also talked about.
The two agencies discussed the need to review policies and procedures in relation to the conduct of anti-drug operations and other drug clearing activities. The PNP and the DDB both agreed that barangay officials should be empowered and their involvement in the anti-drug advocacy should be strengthened.
The PNP serves as permanent consultant to the DDB and matters discussed during the courtesy call are to be brought up to the Board during its meeting scheduled in April.
Aside from the three permanent members, the DDB is composed of 12 ex-officio members or secretaries of national government agencies, 2 regular members, and two permanent consultants – the PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The Board meeting in April will be the first meeting of member agencies to be presided by Sec. Rojas.
