The Dangerous Drugs Board and the Provincial Government of Zamboanga Del Sur signed a Memorandum of Agreement today for the grant of financial assistance worth Five Million Pesos (Php 5,000,000.00).
The financial assistance will be used for the renovation of the drug treatment and rehabilitation facility located in Brgy. Anonang, Aurora, Zamboanga Del Sur. Portion of the said facility will also be utilized for the implementation of its community – based treatment and rehabilitation program for individuals with substance use disorders.
Under the said MOA, DDB will monitor the utilization of funds and will provide recommendations to the local government unit of Zamboanga Del Sur and Municipality of Aurora.
“It is our ardent hope that through this financial assistance, we get to improve the services of our treatment and rehabilitation centers and ensure that effective and needs – based interventions are provided to the individuals who once fell into the trap of addiction,” DDB Chairman Secretary Catalino S. Cuy said.
“Rest assured that as part of the President’s priority, this support system will continue to be implemented in line with the priorities of the DDB,” he added.
Governor Victor J. Yu expressed his gratitude to DDB for the support to the province especially in treatment and rehabilitation programs. “This financial assistance that you gave us is a huge help in order to renovate some facilities that are already old and unrepaired,” he added.
According to Gov. Yu, he will make sure that the amount given will be fully utilized for the said rehabilitation center. He further emphasized that the Province of Zamboanga Del Sur will continue to be DDB’s ally in the campaign against illegal drugs.
Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 mandates the DDB to extend assistance in the establishment and maintenance of treatment and rehabilitation centers in the country.
